SafeSport is a program designed to protect athletes from abuse and misconduct in sports. It provides education, policies, and procedures to prevent bullying, harassment, hazing, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. SafeSport promotes a safe and respectful environment by training coaches, staff, volunteers, and athletes, and it offers a formal process for reporting and investigating concerns. The U.S. Center for SafeSport oversees these efforts at the national level for Olympic and Paralympic sports.
Anyone in high school or under the age of 18 is considered a youth. Some high school athletes may be older than 18 during their high school career, they are still considered youth. In some instances the term minor may be used interchangeably with the word youth.
As a member of a US Rowing club with college and youth athletes, we are obligated to know and follow SafeSport practices. Posting SafeSport practices is done for member awareness and education and to support the Virginia Rowing Association, and college and youth coaches and our members.
Adult member interaction is a healthy and desired part of youth development. Please continue to engage, encourage, and support all of our athletes.
Please take action to prevent bodily and equipment injury.
Alert a coach to let them know you need access. They and the athletes in their program will move to a different location.

You can continue to use the bathroom and shower when youth are in the boathouse. Be advised that no one adult and one youth should be in the bathroom in a 1:1 situation, unless it's an emergency. As a courtesy, youth practice times will be posted on the bathroom doors so no one person will be surprised.
When an RRC member reports an incident to a coach or member, that coach or member is required to notify the Board President. The Board President in consultation with the Vice President, or designee, determines if it can be handled via internal means or if it requires reporting to the US Center for SafeSports for investigation.
