Juniors Rowing

JUNIOR ROWING

Junior Rowing is open to rowers aged 13 to 18.

Junior membership is required.  Junior Learn to Row participants are exempt from this fee.

JUNIOR LEARN TO ROW  

Junior Learn to Row sessions are open to anyone age 13–18 and are designed to introduce rowers to the fundamentals of the sport.

JUNIOR EXPERIENCED 

Experienced Junior Rowing program is open to any rower who has rowed in high school, at the club level, or taken LTR (either Junior or regular) at Rivanna Rowing Club.

Junior Learn to Row

DESCRIPTION

Learn to Row (LTR) for Juniors is designed for those age 13–18 with little or no rowing experience who would like to learn the basics of sculling. Participants learn about safety, boat parts and terms, and the physical fitness relevant to rowing. Participants start out learning the correct form on a rowing machine (ashore), then move into 8x+ (8 rowers with a coxswain,) 4x (4 rowers with or without a cox) or 2x sculling shells.  At least one experienced RRC Coach in a launch (motorboat) oversees practices to motivate and advise on technique.


Junior LTR includes Junior membership for first-time rowers.

Junior Experienced

DESCRIPTION

Junior Experienced Rowing is designed for those age 13–18 who have completed a Learn to Row program and who wish to work with a Coach to advance their skills.

Junior Membership

DESCRIPTION

Membership lasts for the calendar year (Jan 01 – Dec 31) and gives access to facilities, equipment, and programs. Membership is free for those who take “Learn to Row” in the membership calendar year. Adult or Junior membership is required for everyone using RRC facilities and participating in RRC programs.
