2008 Sunset Regatta
Come on down to the boathouse {directions are here} on Sunday August 10th at 5PM for a cookout, barge rides and racing for all skill levels.
We will provide the standard cookout fare of hot dogs, burgers {carnivore and veggie} and drinks. Please bring a side dish to share.

Learn To Scull
RRC will offer 2 levels of Learn to Scull sessions this summer. Although these classes are starting later in the season than usual, this is actually a perfect time to learn to scull or brush up on your basic sculling skills. With summer sweep season ending August 30, beautiful fall rowing days lie ahead, often the nicest time of year to be on the water.
LTS Beginners
For people who have no sculling experience. You do not have be a current RRC member to take this class, but if you pass a Captain's Test at the end of the class and wish to continue sculling, you must then pay the annual RRC membership fee of $170 + $40 Equipment Use fee (good until May 2009)

Sculling Programs
Learn To Scull {LTS} for beginners begins in July.
LTS beginners is for people who have little or no sculling experience and would like to learn the basics of sculling and to generally become familiar with the sport. LTS beginners start out in a quad, move to doubles and possibly to singles by the end of the session. LTS beginners class consists of 12 sessions within a 4-week period. Each session will hold up to 4 students. (Multiple sections may be scheduled). Exact days/times of the sessions will be determined by the coach and his students. Cost: $480 (does not include annual membership fee if LTS grads pass a Captain's Test and wish to continue sculling through May 2009).
Intermediate Learn To Scull begins in July.
LTS-intermediate is for people who have some sculling experience in singles and have passed a Captain's Test (arrangements can be made to take a Captain's Test before the class begins.) LTS-intermediate would consist of 6 sessions with a 2-3 week period. Cost: $240 + $170 annual membership fee = $410.

Learn To Row Session I Begins Monday, June 2
Morning and evening sessions are open to all. No experience necessary. Pre-registration is suggested, as class slots do fill up quickly, but not required.
LEARN TO ROW (LTR)
Number of practices per week: 3
Practice times:
Morning: Tu/Th 5:45-7:45 a.m., Sa 8:30-10:30 a.m.
OR
Evening: Mo/Tu/Th 6:00-8:00 p.m.
JUNE session (June 2-28; four weeks)
JULY session (July 7-August 2; four-weeks)
Each session will accommodate up to 18 participants.
Coach: Mike Hankinson
Purpose: To introduce participants to the sport of rowing. This will include an introduction to rowing technique, fitness, and competition. Additionally, participants will learn general water safety, equipment safety and care, RRC and Boathouse policies, and basic rowing language. After completing LTR, rowers will feel comfortable rowing continuously in an eight, including brief periods of sprints.
Cost: $220 per session
NOVICE
Number of practices per week: 3
Practice times: Tu/Th 5:45-7:45 a.m., Sa 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Sessions: One summer-long ongoing session, to expand in size as LTR graduates join in July and August (at pro-rated fees).
Purpose: To transition beginners into confident, fit rowers. Participants will include 2007 and 2008 LTR graduates, and any Club members wishing to refine their basic skills. (2007 LTR graduates who participated in the 2007 Novice program may join the 2008 Advanced program with Coach permission.) Practices will focus on technique and on building fitness and flexibility. Rowers will also begin to feel comfortable sustaining race pace and using race starts and sprints. Additionally, they will become proficient in use of rowing language, and further their knowledge of equipment care. Finally, they will grow as genuine members of the rowing community: developing a dedicated, team-oriented attitude and a perpetual internal push to excel.
Cost: Full season (15 weeks), $390 (Membership fee $170 + program fee $220)
1/2 season (8 weeks, beginning July 1, post June LTR): $250
($130 membership fee + $120 program fee)
August only (4 weeks, beginning August 5, post July LTR) $180 ($120 membership fee + $60 program fee)
ADVANCED SWEEP

Sessions: Two summer-long sessions, generally considered “A.M.” or “P.M.”, which will practice together Saturday mornings. If a rower cannot make a Saturday practice, he or she may attend a substitute fourth practice during the week in the opposite session.
Purpose: To provide an opportunity for all experienced sweep rowers to participate in high-intensity practices that focus on advanced technical drills and sustained endurance in an atmosphere that also values fun and camaraderie. Saturday joint practices will be dedicated to racing as a team and to practicing in regatta line-ups for those rowers who choose to participate in races. Saturday race practices will be done in combination with the Racing Program. Practices will be held primarily in sweep boats.
Attendance Policy: Regular attendance at practices is expected but not required; rowers should notify coaches if they are unable to attend.
Cost: $460 (Membership fee: $170 + Program Fee: $290)
For rowers who choose to race at regattas, all race costs (entry fees, coxswain costs, trailer fees, gas and tolls, coaches’ costs, hotel and food) will be charged to the rowers in addition to prepaid program/membership fees.
RACING PROGRAM

Practice times:
Morning: Mo/We/Fr 5:45-7:45 a.m. + Sa 7:00-9:00 a.m.
Purpose:
To train for competitive racing at regional regattas. Focus on commitment to high level race training, mandatory attendance at all practices, and required participation in a minimum of 3 regattas
Probable regattas:
1) Stonewall Regatta (May 31)
2) Rockets Landing Regatta (June 14)
3) Diamond State (July 27)
Other 2 possibilities:
Capital Sprints (July 12)
Charm City Sprints (June 21)
Rowers will be coached and will race in sculling and sweep boats (No sculling experience necessary).
Open to experienced rowers but limited this first year to 12 rowers. If more than 12 people sign up, membership will be determined by the coach based on rowing experience and/or fitness levels.

Cost: $600 (Membership fee: $170 + Program Fee: $430)
Race Costs: Race costs at $40/race are included in the $430 program fee, however, if actual costs exceed that amount, rowers will be billed extra.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is mandatory at all practices and races. Occasional, pre- arranged absences for work-related or other important reasons are allowed, but if rowers cannot commit to the full 15-week schedule, they shouldn’t sign up. This is not a drop-in program.

2008 Forms: Membership Form, Liability Waiver & Equipment Use Form
Here is the 2008 Liability Waiver Form for the club. Here is the 2008 Membership Form. Both are required for all sculling and sweep programs, except for LTR {Learn To Row}
Here is the 2008 Equipment Use Fee Form. Sweep or sculling members who intend to use any RRC club equipment outside of a coached program must pay this fee in advance. This would not be applicable to LTR / LTS.
